About Me

I’m Val Whiting—former WNBA player, two-time NCAA champion at Stanford, and a Certified Mental Performance Coach. As a basketball player, I had the honor of competing at the highest levels, winning two national championships, playing in three Final Fours, and capturing four Pac-12 titles. When I left Stanford, I was the Pac-12’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder, a two-time All-American, and a two-time Pac-12 Player of the Year. My success earned me national recognition as an ESPY Award nominee and a two-time National Player of the Year finalist. After college, I continued my career professionally, playing in both the American Basketball League (ABL) and the WNBA. Today, I use my experience to help athletes strengthen their mindset, build confidence, and develop the mental toughness needed to excel in sports and life.

As a Certified Mental Performance Coach and Life Skills Instructor, I mentor athletes at all levels and serve on the National Advisory Board for the Positive Coaching Alliance. I’m also completing my Master’s in Sport and Performance Psychology while working toward CMPC certification. My mission is simple: to equip female athletes with the mental skills to perform at their best and overcome any challenge.

My Journey

Basketball has shaped my life, but my path wasn’t easy. I went from an awkward middle schooler who barely knew the game to a college champion and pro athlete. Along the way, I faced setbacks—being cut, traded, bullied, battling depression, and suffering career-altering injuries. Through it all, I discovered the power of mindset.

A major turning point came after a severe car accident while playing professionally. It forced me to reevaluate everything—my career, identity, and mental resilience. Taking a year off from basketball due to depression was one of my hardest battles, but it taught me that success isn’t just about talent—it’s about overcoming adversity and silencing self-doubt.

That’s why I do this work. I don’t just teach mental performance—I’ve lived it. I know the struggles of confidence, anxiety, and pressure, and I know that with the right mental tools, athletes can rise above any challenge. My mission is to help female athletes strengthen their mindset, believe in themselves, and succeed in both sports and life.
