About Me
I’m Val Whiting, a Certified Mental Performance Consultant, CMPC, former WNBA player, and two-time NCAA champion at Stanford.
As a basketball player, I had the honor of competing at the highest levels, winning two national championships, playing in three Final Fours, and capturing four Pac-12 titles. When I left Stanford, I was the Pac-12’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder, a two-time All-American, and a two-time Pac-12 Player of the Year. My success earned me national recognition as an ESPY Award nominee and a two-time National Player of the Year finalist. After college, I continued my career professionally, playing in both the American Basketball League and the WNBA.
As a CMPC, I bring both lived experience and formal training to my work with athletes. I mentor athletes at all levels, serve on the National Advisory Board for the Positive Coaching Alliance, and use evidence-based mental performance tools to help female athletes build confidence that lasts, bounce back from mistakes, manage pressure, and perform with greater consistency when it matters most.
My mission is simple: to equip female athletes with the mental skills, confidence, and resilience they need to perform at their best in sports and in life.
My Journey
Basketball has shaped my life, but my path was not easy. I went from an awkward middle schooler who barely knew the game to a college champion and professional athlete. Along the way, I faced setbacks, including being cut, traded, bullied, battling depression, and suffering career-altering injuries. Through it all, I discovered the power of mindset.
A major turning point came after a severe car accident while I was playing professionally. It forced me to reevaluate everything, including my career, my identity, and my mental resilience. Taking a year off from basketball due to depression was one of my hardest battles, but it taught me that success is not just about talent. It is about overcoming adversity, rebuilding belief, and learning how to silence self-doubt.
That is why I do this work. I do not just teach mental performance. I have lived it. I know the struggles of confidence, anxiety, and pressure, and I know that with the right mental tools, athletes can rise above the challenges in front of them. My mission is to help female athletes strengthen their mindset, believe in themselves, and succeed in both sports and life.
